Karen Reed is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with an MSc in Tropical Veterinary Medicine and has spent much of her working life overseas. She lived and worked in Nepal and Jordan in the 1990s and spent 15 years with working equine welfare charities all around the world, before she joined Dogs Trust in 2017.
For the first 8 years at Dogs Trust Karen led the international work of the organisation, supporting projects striving towards humanely managing dog populations for the benefit of both dogs and the communities in which they live. This also included a very successful programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Karen is now Veterinary and Welfare Director at Dogs Trust, leading a team providing veterinary and behaviour support to UK programme.
Her passion is the bond between animal and human, how that may be expressed in different contexts, and how changing human behaviour will be what changes the lives of dogs for the better and for the long term. She loves a "street" dog in good health, with the freedom to just “be a dog”.
